Start Your Day the Ziva Way: Emily’s AM Routine

If you ask any ultra successful person for their secret sauce, you hear the same thing again and again: ‘I start my day for ME.’  Before I sit down for my morning meditation, I move through my morning routine. It consists of an Ayurvedic regimen that is designed to elevate performance and prepare the body for meditation.

Mind you, I am NOT a morning person. Never have been and possibly never will be (working on it). So this routine maximizes time while implementing good-for-you habits AND will give you the energy and focus you need to jump start your day.

My morning routine includes:

Oil Pulling

Each morning, I swish organic, virgin coconut oil in my mouth for 10-15 minutes. I practice this length of time because it’s thought to give you the most benefit, but you can start at 5 minutes while you get used to the routine. Afterward, spit out the oil in a trashcan (to prevent clogging your sink!).
Oil pulling is an Ayurvedic practice that is thought to reduce bacteria in the mouth and stop cavities in their tracks. It can also be used to get rid of bad breath, reduce body pain, and even aid digestive distress. People have been practicing this for thousands of years!

Acupressure Mat

I use an acupressure mat to help wake up my feet and body before starting the day. These mats help relieve tension by activating different pressure points in your feet which coincide with other areas of your body. They’re also great for relieving any foot pain.
